Hundreds evacuate in Kalinga; mudslide hits homes

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) said that as of 4:50 p.m. Friday, there are 807 families at the evacuation centers in three towns in the province.

Data gathered as of 4:50 p.m. show that in Tabuk City, 293 families involving 1,040 persons; Pinukpuk, 411 families with 2.045 persons and at Rizal town, 103 families with 327 persons who are now at the municipal evacuation centers.

The said families were pre-emptively evacuated because their houses are located in low lying areas of the towns.

Earlier Friday, Governor Jocel Baac said that they are keeping an eye on the towns of Rizal, Pinukpuk, Pasil and Lubuagan, which are considered as low-lying towns and susceptible to landslides.

He said that food and non-food items have been pre-positioned at the different evacuation centers in the province.

As of 5 p.m., information gathered by the Philippine News Agency show that two houses at Purok 5, Barangay Gobgob in Tabuk city were also hit by raging mudflow from the mountain. The mudflow came after a series of strong isolated rains in the province starting morning of Friday. The houses are owned by the Pasamic and the Lambayong families totalling 13 persons.
