MANILA — Hungary on Wednesday offered 10 million Hungarian forints or about PHP1.89 million in emergency assistance to the victims of the twin bombings in Jolo, Sulu last Sunday.

“Through this assistance, we would like to express to Christians in the Philippines and to people who are threatened by terrorism that Hungary will help and will not desert them when they are in trouble,” the office of the Hungarian Prime Minister said in a statement.

According to the office, emergency assistance is within the framework of the Hungary Helps Program.

As it announced the aid, Hungary joined the international community in deploring the “savage terrorist attack” in Mindanao, condemning the act in “the strongest possible terms.”

“The government is committed to, and ready to take action with relation to, helping communities that are suffering from humanitarian crises,” it said.

On Tuesday night, Chinese President Xi Jinping also extended his “deepest condolences” to the victims of the blast and cited China’s firm opposition against all forms of terrorism.
