Hunt on for 2 BI personnel in S. Korean kidnap case

MANILA — The Bureau of Immigration has ordered its Intelligence Division to locate its two agents being implicated in the kidnapping of a South Korean national.

“The BI Intel Division has been tasked to locate the 2 BI agents,” said BI Spokesperson Antonette Mangrobang in a statement Tuesday.

She added that an investigation has started on possible administration charges against the two personnel.

“Show cause orders have likewise been issued against them as the BI has commenced its investigation for possible administrative charges for grave misconduct, absence without leave and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service,” Mangrobang added.

The immigration personnel were identified as Carlos Garcia and Apollo Calingasan, both allegedly connived with a Korean national and several personnel of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in the abduction of Korean businessman Lee Jung Dae.

The BI official said that they would also be filing charges for immigration violation against the Korean nationals involved in the kidnap-for-ransom.

The Philippine National Police-Anti KIdnapping Group (PNP-AKG) rescued the foreigner inside the BI compound in Intramuros, Manila last Saturday.

Authorities have arrested two Korean nationals and a Filipino who were identified as Cha Jae Young, Cha Jae Sun and Raymond Flores.

With this, Mangrobang said that the BI chief has warned anew the agency’s personnel who are into illegal activities that they would face appropriate charges.

“Commissioner Morente reiterated his warning to any and all immigration personnel engaged in nefarious activities that the BI will ensure the filling of administrative charges and their dismissal from government service,” she added. (PNA)
