Heads up, Filipino cinephiles, you are in for a golden treat!
In celebration of its 50th year, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is set to re-release a total of 50 films that previously graced the big screen for just P50 in select cinemas from Sept. 25 to Oct. 15.
This year’s golden anniversary—themed “Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta”—pays tribute to the MMFF’s decades-long contributions in advancing the Philippine film industry.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) acting chair and MMFF chair Don Artes said this milestone also celebrates the evolution of Filipino films throughout the years, spanning a variety of genres that “encapsulate the historical, social, and artistic narratives of their respective eras.”
“With the Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta screenings, we will bring some of the most memorable MMFF films back to the big screen for just 50 pesos, allowing both new audiences and long- time fans to experience the magic of those beloved films once again,” Artes said on Thursday.
“These films represent some of the best of what the MMFF has offered over the past five decades,” he added.
The 50-film roster is a combination of movies which have undergone restoration, quality enhancement, and remastering, some that were kept in their original state to “evoke a sense of nostalgia,” and a few which have been converted from film to digital format.
