Ilocano inventors urged to showcase marketable inventions

LAOAG CITY — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) called on local inventors from various parts of Region 1 (Ilocos Region) to showcase their inventions at the 2018 National Inventors Week (NIW) set on Nov. 20-23 at the Teatro Ilocandia in Batac City.

DOST- Ilocos Norte Director Joven Viernes said Wednesday the agency expects some 50 exhibitors to present their locally invented products at the three-day event dubbed as “Inventrepinoy for sustainable growth and prosperity”.

The DOST organized the event in collaboration with the Filipino Inventors Society Producer Cooperative, Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI), Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), provincial government of Ilocos Norte, and the City of Batac.

Viernes said the annual event aims to showcase unique and marketable inventions of Filipinos for the community. It features technology and invention exhibits, technology fora, training and workshop and bazaar among others.

The event also highlights a workshop on entrepreneurship and financial management for interested participants.

The technology fora will feature the role of State Universities and Colleges and Higher Education Institutions in developing inventor-entrepreneurs towards sustainable economic development, the role of local government units in developing local inventors to become innovative ‘inventrepinoy’.
