Ilocos Norte eyes lot for provincial hospital expansion

LAOAG CITY — In a bid to improve the facilities of the Gov. Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital, the Ilocos Norte government seeks to acquire a parcel of land adjacent to the hospital for future expansion.

Provincial Board Member Vicentito Lazo, in his capacity as chairperson of the committee on laws, said Thursday, “in order to perfect the land title of the provincial hospital, there is a need to secure a portion of a private lot which is currently occupied by the provincial hospital.”

Lazo narrated that sometime between 2007 and 2010, the Provincial Hospital underwent improvement and there were some structures constructed that occupied a private lot.

“When we built some structures at the hospital, some were built on a private lot—owned by three persons. To perfect our title, we need to acquire this parcel of land,” he said.

Pending the result of negotiation with the private lot owners, it is not clear yet as to the total land area the provincial government plans to acquire for hospital expansion.

Backing this move, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) granted authority to Governor Imee Marcos to negotiate with the owners or authorized representatives of Lot No. 37860, reportedly owned by the Suguitan family in this city. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
