Ilocos Norte SP to conduct session in Vintar town on May 23

LAOAG CITY—The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP or Provincial Board) of Ilocos Norte is set to visit Vintar town in the first district of Ilocos Norte to conduct out-of-Capitol session on May 23.

Vice Governor Eugenio Angelo Marcos Barba said Monday that members of the board are supposed to meet today but they are in Manila for another round of House hearings on the alleged misused of tobacco excise tax in Ilocos Norte.

The out-of-town session of the Ilocos Norte board aims to touch base with the grassroots levels and to personally check on the status of barangays (villages).

Municipal and village lawmakers are also expected to attend and gather inputs as they conduct parliamentary procedures during the session.

“We are glad to announce that our next out-of-town session will be in Vintar to touch base with them and to know their concerns regarding the passing of resolutions and ordinances,” said Barba.

The Ilocos Norte Board hopes to visit all 21 towns and 2 cities of Ilocos Norte for its out-of-capitol session before their term ends in 2019.

Since 2016, this is now the 11th time that the board will conduct its
out-of-town session.

One of the first remote villages the board visited was in Sitio Bucarot, where there is an existing boundary dispute between the municipality of Adams in Ilocos Norte and Calanasan in Apayao province. Up to now, the issue has yet to be resolved. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
