Ilocos Norte to put up P24-M waste recycling facility

By Leilanie Adriano – PNA

LAOAG CITY — The Committee on Laws of Ilocos Norte’s Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Environment and Management Bureau (EMB) are reviewing a draft memorandum of agreement (MOA) that would pave the way for the construction of a model cluster plastic recycling and resource recovery facility in the province.

“Once the MOA is finalized, the EMB will immediately release the amount exclusively for the implementation of the project,” Estrella Sacro, project coordinator of the provincial government’s Environment and Natural Resources Office said Wednesday.

Sacro said the EMB is expected to release more than PHP24 million this December for the procurement and fabrication of the plastic recycling and resource recovery facility.

She said they have already completed the necessary training of personnel for the project.

Based on the proposed agreement, the Provincial Solid Waste Management Board shall allow the clustering of local government units for the solution of common solid waste management problems and provide logistical and operational support.

The plastic waste recycling facility, which was proposed to be located on a 2,500-square meter government lot, is expected to reduce the volume of waste being generated in the province.
