Ilocos Norte vice gov wants provincial codes updated

LAOAG CITY — Ilocos Norte Vice Governor Eugenio Angelo Marcos Barba has urged members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to amend the different codes of the province to keep pace with the changing times.

In an out of town session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan held in Marcos town on Monday, Barba said there were some provisions of the formulated codes such as administrative, environment, traffic, investment and incentive code of Ilocos Norte which need to be revised and updated.

For example, Barba said, some of these provincial codes had not been updated since 1991 and 1996 and a great number of developments happened since then.

“May we request on the various committees to review these measures and introduce amendments to it accordingly,” said Barba.

On the investment code, the Ilocos Norte board is considering a tax holiday on real property tax for companies or businesses looking to invest in the province.

The proposed tax holiday is meant to provide incentives to big businesses for them to come and invest in the province. The Ilocos Norte government, however, prefers companies that can employ more locals.

In addition, the Provincial Board also intends to further integrate micro, small, and medium enterprise  into the investment code. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
