LAOAG CITY — Contingents from the 21 towns and two cities of Ilocos Norte are now gearing up for the ultimate cultural dance showdown set on February 2.

Ilocos Norte Tourism Operations (INTO) Supervising Officer Aianree Raquel said his team’s preparations are already in full swing to make the event successful and extra special.

“As of the moment, the different contingents are all busy with their presentations as we are trying to make it grand every year,” Raquel said in an interview Wednesday.

He said they are planning to present the history of each town or city during the event which will also be uploaded online.

The historical background of each contingent shall feature the participants themselves and how they prepared for the show.

Previously, organizers came up with an all-new production component of the festival in the form of a video presentation highlighting the art of film and animation; and special effects complemented the performances of the competitors.

Raquel said INTO would continue implementing such innovation this year, as he urged every municipality and city to focus on enhancing the filmmaking component of their overall production design.

Now running for eight years, the Tan-ok ni Ilocano Festival of Festivals, held in honor of the province’s patroness La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc, highlights the unique culture and tradition of local residents here interpreted through festival dances.

“Tan-ok” is an Ilocano term for greatness.
