Iloilo City to ban sale of hard drinks after 1 a.m.

ILOILO CITY — The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) here on Thursday approved on first reading an ordinance that will prohibit the sale of intoxicating drinks and set an alcohol curfew after 1 a.m.

Upon its passage, the ordinance will cover not only the Smallville Complex in this city’s Mandurriao district but also sari-sari stores down to the barangay level.

Councilor Joshua Alim, author of the ordinance, said the regulation is “to help the police and other stakeholders to preserve peace.”

“This is for the protection of our constituents,” he said.

Earlier, Mayor Jose Espinosa III also called for the review of local ordinances if there is any which regulates the selling of intoxicating drinks and alcohol curfew in the city.

The proposed ordinance will be subjected to a public consultation by the SP committee on police matters, public safety and illegal drugs. (PNA)
