Iloilo town village chief shot dead

ILOILO CITY — The village chief of Barangay Lonoy, Calinog, Iloilo was shot dead Tuesday morning.

Eustaquio Porras, 49, sustained one gunshot wound at the side of his waist after two unidentified gunmen fired at him, said Chief Insp. Jose Nemias Pamplona, chief of police of Calinog Municipal Police Station.

Pamplona said that Porras was on his way back to his barangay from the town proper riding on a motorcycle with a driver when they encountered the two gunmen allegedly waiting for him at Barangay Carvasana of the same town around 10:30 a.m.

“They were three or five meters away from the suspects when he was shot,” Pamplona said based on their initial investigation.

Recovered at the crime scene was empty shell of caliber 9mm. Only Porras sustained a gunshot, he said.
Pamplona added Porras was immediately rushed to Calinog District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Based on interviews from the bystanders, the suspects quickly left after the incident going to the Lambunao town on board a motorcycle.

He added that the Lambunao Municipal Police Station conducted checkpoint after they coordinated with them to ask for help for the identification and arrest of the suspects.

Pamplona said they are still investigating the motive behind the killing. (PNA)
