MANILA — Ilocos Norte Governor Maria Imelda Josefa ‘Imee’ Marcos expressed support to the Philippine National Police’s drive against loiterers.
“Ang ating mga pulis ay sumusunod lang sa ating mga batas (Our policemen are just following the law,” Marcos said in a chance interview with newsmen when asked about the issue at the PNP National Headquarters (PNP NHQ) at Camp Rafael Crame Monday where she was the guest of honor during the flag-raising ceremony.
Marcos cited the need for the PNP to enforce local laws meant to secure against loiterers, and prevent such unwholesome acts as the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors and its consumption in public.
“There are so many human rights. Palagi natin pinag-uusapan yung (We always talk about) political rights. Napakarami rin ng freedom na hindi natin pinag-uusapan (There are also many forms of freedom which we do not talk about). Freedom from fear, lawlessness, oppression and abuse. Hindi lahat ng tambay inosente, alam natin yan (We know that not all drifters are innocent),” Marcos said.
The Ilocos Norte governor also said she does not see any similarities between President Rodrigo Duterte and the late President Ferdinand Marcos except for the fact that they were both lawyers.
Marcos along with PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde awarded the Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) championship trophy won by the Quezon City Police District in a competition held at Quirino Grandstand, Manila last June 3.
The inter-agency CDM competition was conducted to test the capability and operational readiness of various CDM Units as well as keeping them abreast with the policies and guidelines of the existing rules of Civil Disturbance Management Operations.
The competition was divided into two categories- the PNP Category and AFP category where in the QCPD was adjudged as the overall champion for the PNP category while the Philippine Air Force garnered the championship for the AFP category.
During the competition, the competitors were required to perform the eight basic CDM formations. This was followed by civil disturbance or mass action scenario solving.
The winners in the competition were judged based on the overall rating they obtained from the three phases of competition, the graded inspection, demonstration of the CDM basic formations and problem solving.Aside from the trophies, the winners also received cash prizes.
Meanwhile, the Quezon City Police District reported the apprehension of 139 persons who were caught violating laws and city ordinances from 5:00 a.m. Sunday to 5:00 a.m., Monday.
