CUYAPO, Nueva Ecija — The “encouraging” initial results of electoral protest lodged by former Sen. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. against Vice Pres. Leni Robredo is keeping him away from the 2019 senatorial elections thus his eldest sister would throw her hat into the ring instead.

Ilocos Norte Gov. Maria Imelda Josefa Marcos, popularly known as Imee, said the Marcos family is now considering fielding her in 2019.

“Because he (Bongbong) has protest, which is being pushed, and he does not want to give up because there is hope,” Marcos, who joined the parade during the 4th Cornhusk and Waterlily Festival here on Sunday, said.

She said she may have to give in because only she and Bongbong are inclined to politics.

“The truth is there is no one in the family inclined to politics. My mother asked if she can rest now from politics,” she added.

Asked why a Marcos has to be in the national leadership, she said the north still needs representation, considering the uniqueness of the needs of its people, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure.

The family, she said is upbeat about the initial result of the recount at the Presidential Electoral Tribunal.

“We were surprised there are ballot boxes that have cracked, wet and smell with chemical,” she said.

She, meanwhile, attributed her inclusion in the top 12 of the latest senatorial survey to the vast exposure in parades in various places she is invited.

After this municipality, Marcos also visited the municipalities of Guimba and Talavera.

Last January, she joined the parade in the Science City of Munoz. (PNA)
