MANILA — Index crimes in the eastern part of Metro Manila dropped by 5 percent in 2018, the Eastern Police District (EPD) said Wednesday.

During the first advisory council summit held in San Juan City, EPD director, Brig. Gen. Christopher Tambungan showed that index crimes, such as murder, physical injuries and homicide, declined from 2,503 in 2017 to 2,377 last year.

Street crimes, he said, also decreased by 10 percent from 302 in 2017 to 272 in 2018.

The EPD covers the cities of Pasig, Marikina, Mandaluyong, and San Juan.

Tambungan said EPD’s arrest rate increased by 30 percent from 996 in 2017 to 1,693 in 2018.

He said the first advisory council summit aims to achieve EPD’s goal under PATROL Plan 2030 or the Peace and Order Agenda for Transformation and Upholding Rule of Law.

According to Tambungan, the summit was also conducted to gather suggestions and ideas on how to improve peace and order measures in the district.

Also present during the summit were EPD officials, the four police chiefs of the district and outgoing San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez.
