Indonesia reports 5,797 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 218 new deaths

JAKARTA, May 20 — The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 5,797 within one day to 1,758,898, with the death toll adding by 218 to 48,887, the Health Ministry said on Thursday.

According to the ministry, 4,969 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,621,572.

The virus has spread to all the country’s 34 provinces.

Specifically, within the past 24 hours, West Java recorded 1,332 new cases, Jakarta 895, Central Java 550, Riau 421, and West Sumatra 349.

No new positive cases were found in three provinces, namely Gorontalo, West Sulawesi, and Papua. (Xinhua) -jlo
