Isabela rice millers deliver 17 trucks of rice to Manila

SANTIAGO CITY — The Isabela Rice Millers Association on Monday delivered 14,000 sacks of commercial regular milled rice to Metro Manila in a bid to ensure supply of affordable rice.

National Food Authority (NFA) regional director Mario Gonzales said the rice loaded on 17 trailer trucks were brought to the warehouses of the agency.

Pegged at PHP39 a kilo, the initially shipment of regular milled rice would cost PHP27.3 million. Rice per sack is 50 kilograms.

Gonzales said the rice millers group has committed to deliver 100,000 sacks of rice to meet needs, or until the imported rice has arrived by third or end week of May this year.

He noted the deliveries will ensure supply of “affordable rice,” as the NFA has been running short of buffer stock in the metropolis.

Isabela rice millers have confirmed that cities and towns with low supply of rice have been prioritized to be supplied.

The NFA has imported 250,000-metric-ton rice from Vietnam and Thailand, which would arrive at ports next month through the ports of Manila, Cebu, and Davao. (Bill Visaya/PNA
