Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has voted to propose a general community quarantine for the city of Manila in the recently held meeting of the Metro Manila Council (MMC). Moreno explained that if the enhanced community quarantine remains over Manila, businesses in the city and jobs will suffer which might badly affect the overall economy of the city.
He also mentioned having omitted Php 2 billion from the 2020 budget of the city for the additional cash subsidy which should have been used for construction of roads.
Although he admitted the possibility of COVID-19 cases doubling with the implementation of GCQ, he insisted the city has been preparing for it with the continuing construction of facilities and a much sustained and expanded practice of targeted mass testing.
Based on the latest data of Manila City Hall, there are 876 cases of COVID-19 in the city, and 652 of which are active. There are also 1,007 suspected and 93 probable cases. – Report from Louisa Erispe
