ITCZ, amihan to bring rains across Luzon, Zambo Peninsula

By Ma. Cristina Arayata / Philippine News Agency

The northeast monsoon or amihan and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will bring rain showers across Luzon and the Zamboanga Peninsula, the weather bureau said Wednesday (Nov. 17).

In its 4:00 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast the ITCZ to cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Zamboanga Peninsula and Palawan.

Rains will be experienced over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Aurora, and Quezon, while Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

The rest of the country will have isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over northern Luzon. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area (LPA) is embedded along the ITCZ, 1,525 km east of Mindanao outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

PAGASA weather forecaster Benison Estareja said the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours.

However, the LPA is expected to enter the PAR within 24 hours.

“On Friday, the LPA is expected to bring rains over Bicol and the Visayas. Take precautions against flooding and landslides,” he said. (PNA) – jlo
