ITCZ likely to bring rains this weekend

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

MANILA – An intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is not yet affecting the country, but may possibly bring rains over the weekend, the weather bureau said Friday (April 1).

“Currently, it does not have an effect, but we expect that it would bring rains over a huge part of Mindanao and the Visayas over the weekend,” weather specialist Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

He added that a low pressure area (LPA) may develop along the ITCZ.

PAGASA forecasts zero to one tropical cyclone for the month of April.

For Friday’s forecast, Caraga will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies, while Batanes and Babuyan Islands will have light rains caused by the northeasterly surface wind flow affecting extreme northern Luzon.

The rest of Luzon will be warm at noon, with Metro Manila’s temperature reaching 35 to 36 °C at noon. Tuguegarao’s temperature is up to 35 °C, the Kalayaan Islands up to 33 °C.

There is a high chance of localized thunderstorms, Estareja said. The rest of the country will also have fair weather, and warm at noon.

Davao’s temperature is up to 34 °C; Zamboanga up to 33 °C; Iloilo, Cebu and Tacloban up to 32 °C.

Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will continue to prevail over northern Luzon.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA)
