JBC sets interview of 2 more SC justice bets on Oct. 18

MANILA — The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) on Tuesday set a public interview for hopefuls applying for the position of Supreme Court Associate Justice on Oct. 18.

In a statement, the JBC said it is set to conduct a public panel interview of two of the 13 applicants vying for the position of Associate Justice vacated by Chief Justice Teresita J. Leonardo-de Castro, who will retire on Wednesday.

The interviewees are Sandiganbayan Justice Alex D.L. Quiroz and lawyer Rita Linda Jimeno.

The interview will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Division Hearing Room, SC Main Building along Padre Faura St. in Manila.

There are 11 more applicants vying for the position of Associate Justice but their previous interviews remain valid.

They are Court of Appeals Associate Justices Oscar V. Badelles, Manuel M. Barrios, Apolinario D. Bruselas Jr., Rosmari D. Carandang, Stephen C. Cruz, Edgardo L. Delos Santos, Japar B. Dimaampao, Ramon D.R. Garcia, Ramon Paul L. Hernando, and Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, and former Ateneo Law dean Cesar L. Villanueva.

The JBC also announced the opening of another vacancy for a magistrate post to be left by Associate Justice Noel Tijam, who will compulsorily retire on Jan. 5, 2019.

The deadline for the submission of applications or recommendations and required documents for the vacancy will be on Nov. 5.

The council, meanwhile, has also opened for application or recommendation the post of Chief Justice and set the deadline for submission of applications or recommendations and required documents on Oct. 15. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
