Jimenez quits as source code review body focal person

MANILA — Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson James Jimenez on Monday announced his resignation as the focal person of the Local Source Code Review (LSCR) Committee for the automated election system (AES) that will be used in the May 13, 2019 National and Local Elections (NLE).

Jimenez’s resignation came after an image of a bikini-clad actress accidentally projected on the screen during the kick-off ceremony of the code review at the Dela Salle University (DLSU) in Manila on Saturday.

“Last Saturday, we kicked off the source code review and unfortunately there was a small technical issue that resulted in the flashing of image that was inappropriate to the event,” said the poll body official in a press briefing.

“Again I regret that, but I have to take responsibility. It was our committee that arranged that event and that sort of thing should have been better handled. As a consequence I have this morning tendered by resignation as focal person for the local source code review again because of that unfortunate event,” Jimenez added.

The image of the actress appeared on the wide screen while Comelec Commissioner Luie Guia and LSCR Committee vice-chairperson was delivering his opening speech.

“It was the image of an actress actually in a bathing suit. The image is in my computer. Desktop image sya, and then unfortunately when we were switching programs from presentation to presentation apparently. lumalabas ‘yong desktop (photo) (the desktop photo appeared) in between presentation,” he said.

“So for a fleeting moment as the program switched from one presentation to the next nakita ang desktop and again that was the image on the desktop, parang (it is like a) wallpaper,” Jimenez added.

He added that it will be the committee that will decide who will replace him as its lead person.

The local source code review will be from Oct. 17 to Dec. 14. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
