MANILA – Former senator Jinggoy Estrada wished that he and his half-brother, re-electionist Senator JV Ejercito, would both win in next year’s mid-term polls.
“Kadugo ko pa rin ‘yan. Isa lang ang tatay naming. Kung ako lang, gusto ko na manalo kaming dalawa sa (We are still related by blood. We have only one father. If it were up to me, I want both of us to win in the) 2019 elections,” Estrada told reporters after filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator before the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) main office in Manila on Tuesday.
He was accompanied by his parents Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and former senator Loi Estrada.
He vowed to promote the welfare of less fortunate Filipinos, if elected to the Senate again.
“Itutuloy ko din ang mga (I will continue) unfinished programs, promote the welfare of the poor,” he added.
Estrada is running under the political party of his father, Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino.
Ejercito filed his COC on Monday as a candidate of the Nationalist People’s Coalition.
Meanwhile, former Consultative Committee (ConCom) spokesperson Ding Genoroso said he will promote federalism once elected in the mid-term polls.
Generoso announced that he is no longer representing the Committee starting Tuesday, the day he filed his COC together with the full senatorial slate of their party, Katipunan ng Kamalayan Kayumanggi.
“Whatever I would say from here on, will have nothing to do with the Consultative Committee, but everything I would say and we will say, my party mates in the Katipunan ng Kamalayan Kayumanggi, will have something to do with the draft constitution that was prepared by the Consultative Committee under the leadership of former chief justice, Renato Puno,” Genoroso said.
“We are taking part in this electoral exercise for one reason and one reason only. That is to campaign for federalism, system change, and the adoption of the Puno draft Constitution,” he added.
Other senatorial hopefuls from the opposition party, Liberal Party, who filed their COCs on Tuesday were former Quezon Rep. Lorenzo Tañada III and Free Legal Assistance Group head Jose Manuel Diokno. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
