Judges, prosecutors attend cybercrime training

MANILA — The Department of Justice – Office of Cybercrime (DOJ-OOC), in partnership with the Global Action on Cybercrime Extended (GLACY+) Project, has conducted the first leg of its Introductory Training of Trainers (ToT) Course on Cybercrime and Electronic Evidence for the ASEAN region.

The four-day training, which ran in Manila on March 20-23, was aimed at empowering countries to develop and sustain their respective training programs by establishing a group of trainers who will cascade basic knowledge and skill sets necessary for prosecutors, judges, and magistrates to handle cybercrime and cyber-related cases in the ASEAN region.

A composite team of international experts, prosecution and judicial authorities from the Philippines shared their knowledge and expertise with some 40 representatives from the judicial and prosecution services of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, and Thailand.

In a statement, DOJ said the Philippines is a priority country for capacity building under the GLACY+ of the Council of Europe, and is considered an exponent of regional best practice in strengthening the response of criminal justice authorities to address the growing threats and challenges of cybercrime and electronic evidence, in line with international standards. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan/PNA)
