Judiciary addresses issue of lawyer killings

The judiciary branch of government is taking strides to ensure the safety of the members of the legal community in the Philippines.

According to Department of Justice (DOJ) Menardo Guevarra, the judiciary has discussed on January 13 the “numerous issues pertaining to the rash of killings of members of the legal community.”

Because of this the DOJ has been tasked to monitor the progress of such cases held by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

“Other issues, such as providing greater protection to law practitioners, prosecutors, and judges, will be tackled in subsequent joint activities with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP),” he added.

Sec. Guevarra disclosed that they are drafting the report to be submitted to Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta in order to address the issue. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
