‘Karding’-enhanced southwest monsoon to bring moderate rains Friday

MANILA — Tropical Storm Karding (international name Yagi) continues to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat as it moves northwest, bringing widespread moderate to heavy rains over north and central Luzon on Friday.

In its 4 a.m. forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Karding” was at 1,150 km. east of Basco, Batanes with maximum winds of 75 km. per hour (kph), and gusts of 90 kph.

Monsoon rains would bring moderate to heavy rains over Metro Manila and the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Bicol.

Cagayan Valley, Western Visayas, Mindanao and the rest of the Visayas would have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorm, also caused by the southwest monsoon.

The western section of Luzon will have strong gale from the southwest, with rough to very rough coastal waters, making sea travel risky over the western seaboard.

Temperature in Metro Manila ranges from 25-29 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao City, 24-32 degrees Celsius; Baguio City, 16-20 degrees Celsius; Angeles City, 24-28 degrees Celsius; Lipa City, 24-30 degrees Celsius; Metro Cebu, 25-32 degrees Celsius; and Metro Davao, 26-33 degrees Celsius. (Lily Ramos/PNA)
