Kawit youth volunteers distribute Christmas gifts to 17,000 students

KAWIT, Cavite — More than 100 youths here volunteered to distribute school bags and school supplies to the town’s public elementary and high schools under the local government’s “Maagang Aguinaldo” project.

Mayor Angelo Emilio G. Aguinaldo, who initiated the Yuletide gift-giving project said on Thursday that Christmas did not only highlight the “season of caring and sharing,” but also brought to fore the spirit of volunteerism among the youth.

U-Team Buhay founder Dennis Rodman A. Santera and the more than 100 members across Cavite province have been volunteering their time and efforts in packing, loading and distributing the thousands of school bags as Christmas presents for school children.

Santera and his team are now doing the rounds on shifts “whoever is available” in distributing the gift packs to the local public schools.

Beneficiaries for the Mayor’s Christmas gift-giving project include students from Aguinaldo, Batong Dalig, Binakayan, F. Ilano Memorial, Gahak-Marulas, Kaingen-Poblacion, Panamitan, Potol-Sta. Isabel, Toclong, Tramo and Wakas elementary schools here.

Also, the roving team brought the Christmas gifts to students of EmilianoTria Tirona Memorial and Binakayan National High Schools.

Santera said that their youth organization established in 2013 had been frequently volunteering on various socio-economic activities in and out of Kawit because “as future leaders, we want to impart leadership with a heart among our members.”

He, described as son, a brother, student, friend and youth leader, is steering the youth organization to hone responsible and disciplined citizens among them “for us to bring these values when we face bigger responsibilities in the future.”

The Mayor’s “Maagang Aguinaldo” project kicked off on December 5 and will continue until the estimated 17,000 Christmas gift packs are distributed. (PNA)
