Kho takes oath as Comelec commissioner, asks for employees’ support

MANILA — Newly-appointed Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Antonio Kho Jr. asked for the support of the personnel as he embarked on his new duty as an official of the poll body.

“In his speech, Commissioner Kho asked for the employees’ support as he entered into his new responsibilities, including being tapped to focus on further streamlining the Comelec’s disposition of electoral protest cases, together with Commissioner Socorro Inting,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement Monday.

Kho took his oath of office before Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas.

Aside from Inting, Commissioners Luie Tito Guia, Rowena Guanzon, and Marlon Casquejo were present during the ceremony while Commissioner Al Parreño was away on official business.

Also in attendance were the directors of the Comelec, as well as representatives of various employee organizations.

At the same time, Jimenez said they support the appointment of Kho, which completes the poll body’s seven-man panel of the Commission.

“The Comelec welcomes the appointment, coming as it does, at a critical point in the preparations for the 2019 National and Local Elections,” he added.

Kho, former Justice Undersecretary, is the fourth appointee of President Rodrigo Duterte to the poll body after Chairman Abas and Commissioners Inting and Casquejo. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
