DAVAO CITY — The on-going PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup is heading to Kidapawan City for the Mindanao Quarter Finals on February 10 and 11.
There will be a total of 33 bouts with the winners advancing to the semi-finals set on March 3 in Cagayan de Oro City, according to Supervising Technical Director Rogelio Fortaleza of the Philippine Sports Institute.
Cagayan de Oro has the most number of quarterfinalists with eight boxers followed by Davao City and Digos both with six.
Host Kidapawan Mayor Joseph Evangelista has four qualifiers – Renard Mancao (Jr. Boys pinweight 44-46 kg.), Junarie Biendima (Youth Boys flyweight 52 kg.), Jerson Arigola (Youth Boys bantamweight 56 kg.) and Jan Reyan Dapidran (Youth Boys lightweight 60 kg.).
Dapidran, a cousin of 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao, is facing Davao’s John Alvin Gonzales while Arigola takes on Digos’ Elmar James Panerio.
Biendima will collide with Cagayan’s John Ignatius Macas while Mancao faces Gabriel dela Pena of General Santos City.
Philippine Sports Commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey is expected to arrive during the opening ceremony on Feb. 10 at 1 p.m.
The nationwide grassroots developmental program is sponsored by PSC in coordination with the officer of Sen. Manny Pacquiao.
