Kids of drug surrenderers in Cebu get free school supplies

CEBU CITY –- The Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP) distributed free school supplies to the children of drug surrenderers in this city Thursday at the Cebu City Hall.

COSAP chief Garry Lao, in an interview, said that recipients of the school supplies were children of 227 drug surrenderers from 24 villages in the city.

He, however, said only about 60 recipients were able to get the school bags containing notebooks because some of the kids, particularly those from the mountain barangays, were not able to make it to the City Hall due to bad weather.

“It’s just so unfortunate that the weather was uncooperative. The children from the mountain barangays could not come because of the heavy downpour,” Lao said in Cebuano.

“We are now giving school supplies to the children for the next school year since we already provided their drug surrenderer parents bags of rice last month,” he said.

Recipients who were not able to get their free school supplies Thursday need not worry, said Lao, as they will deliver them to their barangays instead.

He said they will soon announce the schedule of delivery.
