Kuwait awaits visit date of Duterte: DFA

MANILA— Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday confirmed that the Kuwaiti government was already informed about President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s planned visit to the Arab state and is now awaiting a specific date from the Philippines.

“They know already that the president wants to visit and they said he is welcome anytime. So what they’re waiting for is a specific date that we have not yet given,” Cayetano told reporters after the 120th Department of Foreign Affairs anniversary celebration in Pasay City.

“We will announce the details for the visit to Kuwait once it’s finalized,” Cayetano assured. “We’ll try to do it as soon as possible.”

To date, the only issue for the visit is the “timing,” said the official.

President Duterte this week announced his plan to visit Kuwait, following the successful signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the protection of overseas Filipino worker in the Gulf country.

His first official trip to the state was supposed to be in early May but was set aside due to the two nations’ diplomatic tiff. The issue was resolved last month, when the MOA, with all Philippine conditions intact, was signed. (Joyce Ann L. Rocamora/PNA)
