‘Lakad Iwas Droga’ anti-drug assembly set in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY — Anti-drug advocates from various sectors will gather for the “Lakad Iwas Droga: CADCoB Walk for a Cause” on Friday which will culminate at the Bacolod public plaza.

The fund-raising walk, organized by the CADCoB or the Community Anti-Drug Coalition of Bacolod, will start at 6 a.m. from two points — at the Provincial Capitol lagoon in the north, and in front of the Sacred Heart Shrine in the south.

Richard Nessia, coordinator of CADCoB, said that through the event, they aim to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and make the Bacolodnons advocates of drug abuse prevention.

“We also aim to build and strengthen the capacity of community coalitions by providing them technical assistance and training, public policy, local conferences and special events,” he added.

Nessia said the proceeds of the fund-raising will be used to finance the various activities of the coalition.

Among these are life skills training for the youth in schools and drug surrenderers in barangays as well street lighting in areas identified as “hotbed” of drug trade.

In the afternoon, the CADCoB will also hold a general assembly at the MassKara Hall of the Bacolod City Government Center.

Brandon Hudspeth, director of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affair of the United States Embassy in Manila, will give an inspirational message.

Dr. Raquel Tolentino, national president of Association of Anti-Drug Abuse Coalitions of the Philippines Inc. and in-country coordinator of Community Anti-Drug Coalition of America, will introduce the two organizations. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
