Last-termer village chief eyes ABC provincial federation post

ILOILO CITY – A last-termer village chief of Balabag, Dumangas, Iloilo confirmed on Saturday that she is vying for the presidency of the provincial federation of Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) in the July 30 elections.

In a media interview, Dorothy Paes, said that she wanted all the basic programs of the provincial government to really reach all the villages in the province, if given the chance to serve as President.

She added that she also wanted all elected village officials to be enrolled in the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) and other insurances so they will be protected; and provide scholarships to the youth.

“As of now, other village officials do not have these insurances,” she said.

Meantime, Paes said that all the ABC municipal federation officers from the 42 towns and one component city in the province will convene with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Iloilo on July 23 at Casa Real Iloilo, mainly to tackle the activities in line with the incoming ABC provincial federation election.

But 29 of the ABC municipal federation Presidents in the province already convened Saturday in a consultative meeting led by Rep. Ferjenel Biron.

In a previous interview with DILG-Iloilo Provincial Director Teodora Sumagaysay, the filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) for the ABC provincial federation election is set on July 24-26.

Sumagaysay said that the winning President of the ABC provincial federation will have an automatic seat in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan as chairman of the Committee on Barangay (village) Affairs. (Cindy Ferrer/PNA)
