Legazpi airport resumes operations Wednesday: CAAP

LEGAZPI CITY — The Legazpi Domestic Airport is back to its normal full operation, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced Tuesday.

Eric Apolonio, CAAP spokesperson, in a phone interview said flights to Legazpi would resume starting Wednesday with daily flights from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

He said CAAP conducted a series of Visual Meteorological Condition (VMC) surveys on the Legazpi Domestic Airport runway and found out that the airport runway and other facilities were so far not affected by the Mayon volcano eruption.

CAAP closed the Legazpi Domestic Airport operation due to the volcanic activities that started last January 13. It allowed the airport to resume operation on a limited schedule last week with daily flights from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

There are at least seven daily flights by two carriers – Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific – at the airport, plying the Manila-Legazpi-Manila and the Cebu-Legazpi-Cebu routes. (PNA)
