Liquor ban in Manila still effective, Brgy. 847 on lockdown

The liquor ban is still being strictly implemented in the city of Manila amid the start of the general community quarantine (GCQ) implementation at the National Capital Region (NCR).

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno disclosed he has plans to lift the ban but it is not his priority for now. He added that the capacity of LGUs in terms of testing and isolation measures against COVID-19 must be increased.

“It’s not my priority yet because I want to focus on ourselves, our people, in addressing GCQ, on how to adopt to the new normal and towards MGCQ, so it may be lifted, maybe in a week or two,” Moreno said.

Meanwhile, the entire Barangay 847 in Pandacan, Manila has been placed under hard lockdown, following the request of barangay officials since four of its residents have tested positive for COVID-19 while two more are suspected. The lockdown in the area will be effective until June 2, 11:59 p.m. Health workers, military personnel, service workers, and other essential workers are exempted.

Meanwhile, the local government of Manila inaugurated the in-city vertical housing project in Tondo, Manila which aims to provide permanent housing for poor residents of the district. Moreno said the projects of the LGU will continue amid the COVID-19 pandemic. – Report from Mark Fetalco
