LPA may enter PAR within 24 hours

MANILA—The low pressure area spotted off central Luzon may enter the country within 24 hours and bring moderate to strong rains, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tuesday.

In its 4 a.m. update, PAGASA said the southwest monsoon is still affecting Luzon and the Visayas, including Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro and Palawan. The LPA was spotted at 1,555 kilometers east of northern Luzon as of 3 a.m. Tuesday.

It is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Tuesday and Wednesday and will be named “Karding”.

Metro Manila, Ilocos and Cordillera Administrative regions and the rest of central Luzon, western Visayas and Mindanao will experience occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon.

The rest of Luzon and Visayas will be cloudy with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

In its heavy rainfall warning at 7:55 a.m., PAGASA said heavy rains with lightning and strong winds due to thunderstorms are expected over Batangas and nearby areas within the next 1-2 hours. (Lily Ramos/PNA)
