LPA spotted outside PAR

A low pressure area (LPA) was spotted 2,200 kilometers east of Mindanao, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the weather bureau said Thursday, May 18.

The LPA, which would likely develop into a weak tropical depression in the next two to three days, is forecast to enter the PAR next week, Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

“But this will remain far from the landmass and unlikely to directly affect the country’s weather condition,” Estareja said, noting that the LPA could change its track.

Meanwhile, high chances of thunderstorms are expected over the western section of Luzon, and the Visayas due to the southwesterly wind flow on Thursday.

The rest of the country will continue to experience warm weather with isolated rain showers, he said.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will continue to prevail across the archipelago.
