LPA unlikely to enter PH, warm weather to prevail

MANILA – The low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is unlikely to enter the country, the weather bureau said Thursday, Feb. 10.

“The LPA is (located) around 965 kilometers southeast of Mindanao. It has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, and it is not expected to enter PAR,” Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The trough of the LPA, however, will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Caraga, Davao Region, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Samar, and Eastern Samar.

Flash floods or landslides are likely during moderate to heavy rains.

Aurelio said the northeast monsoon is only affecting extreme northern Luzon, so it will cause light rains over Batanes, and isolated light rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

“Most areas in Luzon, the Visayas, and parts of Mindanao will have warm weather,” he continued.

PAGASA forecast isolated rain showers over Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms and the easterlies.

Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will continue to prevail over Luzon, the Visayas, and the eastern section of Mindanao.

Fishing boats and other small sea vessels are alerted against moderate to rough seas over the northern, western, and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) – bny
