LTO in NegOr’s Bayawan City can now issue new driver’s licenses

DUMAGUETE CITY — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental province can now issue new driver’s licenses following the authorization recently given by the LTO central office.

LTO-Bayawan District Office chief, Alberta Janine Lawas, confirmed on Tuesday that she has received a copy of LTO Office Order No. 2017-217, signed by Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante, which gives them authority to process the application for new driver’s license.

The order also authorizes the installation of the Automated Driver’s License Examination System Facility (ADLES) in LTO-Bayawan.

Lawas expressed gratitude to the LTO central office for finally giving her office the go-signal to process applications for new driver’s license, saying this will help people in far-flung areas in southern Negros Oriental.

She said LTO-Bayawan previously catered only to applications for renewal of driver’s license and for a student permit.

With this latest development, motorists applying for a new driver’s license no longer have to travel to Dumaguete City, about 100 km. from Bayawan.

The issuance of new driver’s licenses by LTO-Bayawan will soon be operational once the equipment and peripherals are delivered and the operational and administrative requirements are in place, she said.

In the meantime, Lawas disclosed she is meeting with Bayawan City Mayor Pryde Henry Teves this week to ask the help of the local government in extending the current LTO office there for the lecture and license area. (PNA)
