LTO releases the new card for the 5-year validity licenses

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will start distributing the new five-year validity license cards on Tuesday.

For around 400 walk-ins who will apply for a new or renew their existing driver’s license will be issued with the new released cards at the main office in the National Capital Region (NCR) only.

“The issuance is limited muna doon sa magre-renew ng license simula bukas (August 29),” LTO chief Edgar Galvante said.

Meanwhile, all the license paper holders who were registered from October up to last week will get their license cards by batches starting next month because of the system adjustment between IT contractors.

LTO confirmed that by the middle of September, they will start distributing the cards in Region 1 Central Luzon; Region 4-A,  CALABARZON; and Region 11, Davao while by October it will be implemented nationwide.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed the law extending the validity of the driver’s license from three years to five years on August 2, 2017. Under the Republic Act (RA) No. 10930 effectively amended Section 23 of Republic Act No. 4136, otherwise known as the “Land Transportation (LTO) and Traffic Code.”  | (Tina Joyce Laceda – PTV)
