The maximum rates for medical examination for the application of driver’s license and student permits has been set at P300, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said Monday, May 22.
Outgoing LTO chief Jay Art Tugade said accredited medical and health facilities can also lower the prescribed rate of P300 per transaction.
“Hindi po natin maisasantabi ang maraming reklamo kaugnay ng sobrang mahal ng pagkuha ng medical certificate na ang iba ay nagbabayad ng ₱500 hanggang ₱700. Mabigat na ang halaga na ito para sa ating mga ordinaryong mamamayan,” Tugade said.
The LTO said the new policy covers all accredited health facilities that will conduct medical examinations for student driver’s permit, new non-professional driver’s license, new conductor’s license, and the renewal and upgrading of non-professional license to professional license.
Health facilities found violating the policy may face a P10,000 fine and a 90-day suspension of their accreditation on their first offense.
For the second offense, the suspension may be extended up to 180 days and the fine to P15,000.
For the third offense, their accreditation will be revoked. They will also be perpetually disqualified from being accredited facilities by the LTO.
The policy will take effect 15 days after the memorandum circular is published in papers of general circulation or if a certified copy is filed at the Office of the National Registry. – gb
