LTO to intensify watch on motorists face mask compliance

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will be tightening the monitoring on people’s compliance with the health protocol on wearing of face masks even in vehicles carrying passengers of the same household.

According to the LTO, drivers carrying one or more passengers are required to wear the said protective gear.

Violators of sanitary measures will be fined ₱1,000 for the first offense and will be issued a ticket for reckless driving. A fine of ₱3,000 and ₱5,000 with license suspension will be imposed to violators for succeeding offenses.

It has been seven months since Memorandum Circular 2020-2185 was issued where the directive was included.

“Doon po sa citation ticket, mayroon po nakalagay doon na you can file a protest or you can contest the citation kung kayo ay kung pananaw niyo ay mali ‘yon (In the citation ticket, it is stated that you can file a protest or you can contest the citation if you think it is wrong),” LTO Dir. Clarence Guinto elucidated.

“The alleged violator is given five days to file a protest. Ang protest po, ipina-file sa LTO, hindi po sa social media (The protest is filed at the LTO and not on social media),” Guinto added. – Report from Karen Villanda
