After making landfall in Maconacon, Isabela at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Tropical Depression Luis has gradually weakened into a remnant low pressure area (LPA).
According to PAGASA’s 5:00 a.m. bulletin, the weather system was last located in the vicinity of Peñablanca, Cagayan moving west northwestward at 10 kph.
The weakening of Luis prompted the state weather bureau to lift wind signals that were previously hoisted in 8 provinces in northern Luzon
While the storm has largely dissipated, PAGASA continues to warn fisherfolk and owners of small marine vessels to exercise caution due to rough seas over the western seaboard of Pangasinan, generating waves as high as 3.0 meters.
Moderate seas are also expected over the following coastal areas:
• Up to 2.5 m: The seaboards of Isabela and Zambales; the northern and eastern seaboards of Polillo Islands; the northern seaboard of Camarines Norte; the eastern seaboard of Davao Oriental; the northeastern seaboard of Aurora.
• Up to 2.0 m: The seaboards of Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Occidental; the western seaboards of Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Islands, and Calamian Islands; the northern seaboard of Camarines Sur; the northern and eastern seaboards of Catanduanes and Northern Samar; the eastern seaboards of Albay, Sorsogon, Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, and Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands; the southern seaboard of Davao Oriental; also, the remaining seaboards of Pangasinan.
The state weather bureau also pointed out unfavorable conditions that led to the weakening of Luis, but it may still maintain its trajectory towards the Philippine Sea.
However, PAGASA continues to advise the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property.
The southwest monsoon (habagat) is expected to prevail over Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Antique, Iloilo, and Guimaras, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
