Luzon grid operations back to normal

Luzon grid operations are back to normal after the forced outage of seven power plants that caused electricity supply issues, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

In the Sept. 13 Laging Handa briefing, NGCP Spokesperson Atty. Cynthia Alabanza said there was a transmission tripping incident last Sunday, Sept. 11, prompting some power plants to stop operations to prevent it from worsening.

However, it took until Monday afternoon, Sept. 12, to restore the operation of the power plants.

Alabanza also explained the red alert status which can bring sudden power loss anytime.

“Ang red alert, ibig sabihin imminent o anumang oras maaaring magkaroon ng brown out,” she continued.

Meanwhile, Meralco did not push through with its earlier advised rotating power interruptions. —With reports from Naomi Tiburcio and Katrina Gracia Consebido-ag
