Magnitude 5.1 quake jolts Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake rocked Surigao del Sur on Wednesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

State seismologists reported that the quake hit 65 kilometers (km) northeast of Hinatuan town around 12:51 p.m.

Based on the information bulletin of Phivolcs, as of 1:42 p.m. of April 3, the tectonic quake had a depth of focus of 1 km. 

Intensity IV was felt in the City of Bislig, while intensity III was recorded in Lingig town.

Intensity II was logged in Tagbina, also in Surigao del Sur.

According to Phivolcs, the tremor was an aftershock of the 7.4-magnitude quake that hit the province last Dec. 2, 2023.

No aftershocks and damages were expected, the agency said. – avds
