Magnitude 6.4 quake jolts Davao Occidental

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has reported a 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit Davao Occidental Sunday night.

The trembler occurred past 11:23 in the evening and its epicenter was located 40 kilometers southeast of Don Marcelino. It had a depth of 149 kilometers.

According to PHIVOLCS, the origin of the tremor was tectonic and as of 7:00 AM, the 24 aftershocks were recorded. However, the aftershocks were not felt by residents due to the depth of its center.

Intensity 5 was felt in General Santos City; Mati City, Alabel and Malungon, Sarangani, and Intensity 4 in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur, Koronadal City, and Tupi, South Cotabato, Kiamba, Sarangani. Intensity 3 was felt in Kidapawan City and Gingoog City. Intensity 2 was felt in Bislig City, Surigao Del, and Intensity 1 in Cagayan de Oro City.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) XI and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) XI are still inspecting the area for major damages.
