Magnolia blasts NLEX to start Governors’ Cup stint

MANILA — Magnolia Hotshots bludgeoned NLEX Road Warriors, 102-72, to start its campaign in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Wednesday night.

Playing without current Gilas player Paul Lee, the Hotshots somehow showed that they can pull off a blowout win, quickly opening a 31-12 lead against what seemed like a weary Road Warriors side, which already played its third game of the conference in as many playdates.

Romeo Travis debuted for Magnolia with 21 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Mark Barroca added 13 points, six rebounds, and two assists, while PJ Simon chipped in 12 points off the bench.

Olu Ashaolu put up 21 points, nine boards, three dimes, and one steal for NLEX, which fell to 2-1. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
