Maguindanao town slaughters 50 cows for Eid’l Adha

COTABATO CITY — The local government of Matanog, Maguindanao on Wednesday began distributing to poor constituents free Qurbani meat from 50 cows slaughtered for the Aug. 21-23 grand celebration of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

Based on the Qurbani practice, an animal or animals are sacrificed to Allah during the period of Eid’l Adha. The town’s Sangguniang Bayan earlier passed a resolution declaring a three-day holiday for Eid’l Adha.

“We need to promote this very holy and important Muslim holiday and the food that we prepared will be shared equally with our ethnic Iranun tribal sisters and brothers for the preservation of our culture,” Guro said.

Aside from the distribution of Qurbani meat to the less fortunate, Guro said the town held other activities to celebrate the feast that includes the traditional Muslim games of “Sipa sa Manggis, Palo Sebo, Paluan sa Palayok and Iranun food cooking contest.”

Guro, a religious Muslim leader, urged his Muslim sisters and brothers to continue the good attitude of promoting generosity, “especially to our less fortunate neighbors, regardless of their faith and belief.”
