City Garden Grand Hotel’s certificate of authority to operate may be revoked if proven that protocols have been violated following the incidents before the death of flight attendant Christine Dacera.
The Tourism Congress of the Philippines said the tragic incident should not have happened if the hotel management prohibited leisure booking.
The DOT has already issued a show cause order to the hotel since it is being used as quarantine facility and is not allowed to accept leisure booking.
“Sinasabi nila na (They are saying) they did not accept for leisure purposes… Iginigiit ng Garden Hotel na wala silang liability or wala silang violation sa mga IATF policies or department order (City Garden is insisting that it does not have any liability or violations of IATF policies or department orders),” DOT-NCR Reg. Dir. Woodrow Maquiling Jr. said.
“That’s a bit funny because their own CCTV cameras, the pronouncement of the Philippine National Police, the pronouncement of persons involved, would run contrary to their reply,” he added.
Authorities said the hotel is also insisting that Dacera and her companions were considered “permitted guests.” However, permitted guests are still prohibited to party.
The DOT is now conducting physical investigation on the matter.
The City Government of Makati will order the closure of the hotel if proven that it did not comply with IATF-EID guidelines. Two show cause orders were already issued by the Makati government to the hotel. Aside from the reported party that happened, authorities received reports that buffet dinners for overnight stay are allegedly accepted in the hotel. City Garden Grand Hotel is not included in the list of accredited hotels for staycation in the National Capital Region. – Report from Cleizl Pardilla
