The Makati City government has lifted the closure order issued against Smart Communications Inc.

This was confirmed by Makati City legal officer and spokesperson Atty. Michael Camiña in a statement.

“We confirm that the closure order issued against Smart Communications, Inc. has been lifted following the submission of documents in compliance with an earlier government order and court rulings,” he said.

“Again, we would like to remind all businesses operating in the city to comply with city ordinances and regulations,” he added.

The city government on Monday issued the closure order due to alleged unpaid taxes and lack of business permit.

Smart said in its statement that it “remains committed to complying with Makati City’s local tax ordinances, and with relevant national laws, applicable in respect of local taxation.”

“Smart has filed the appropriate cases to resolve outstanding legal issues, these cases remain pending,” it added. “Our legal and tax teams continue to be in touch with the Makati local government unit on the matters at hand.” – With reports from Gillian Geronimo and Katrina Gracia Consebido-ag
